Live intentionally and pay attention
Forget New year’s resolutions
I know. It’s a new year and you feel you want to start fresh – to change something – to stop something – to grow – to make this year different. Making New year’s resolutions is not the answer. THEY DO NOT WORK. Did you know that only 7% of those who make resolutions actually stick to them? Nevertheless you do feel energised and motivated to develop and grow at this time of year. So I want you to set intentions.
Sit down with a coffee…or a glass of wine if it is that time of day! And answer these questions:
- WHAT KIND OF PERSON DO I WANT TO BE THIS YEAR?
Do you want to be more loving? Generous? Kind? Organized? Productive? Worry free? Confident? How do you want to show up in the world? Write down as much as you can and then narrow it down to your absolute priorities.
2 IN WHAT DIRECTION DO I WANT MY LIFE TO GO THIS YEAR?
Where do you see yourself in a year’s time? Or rephrase that – Where would you like to see yourself in a year’s time?
Sit with these questions until you have your own answers. If you can, condense what you have written into one or two sentences.
Now simply intend to live that way moving in that direction. What do I mean by intend? – I mean go about your life now with DELIBERATE THOUGHT, Write your final sentences out and place them somewhere you can see them to remind you each day of what your intentions are.
By keeping your sentences uppermost in your mind, you will be compelled to take the actions that will enable your intentions.
Don’t allow this year to fly by so that when you look back on it you can’t even remember it! You have your overall intentions set for this year now pay attention to your behaviour and actions .Be in the moment. Focus your attention on what you are doing and who you are with right now. Use all your senses to do it. Your mind will wander – that’s what it does. Try to catch yourself and bring your attention back. Be there for your experiences.

Do not live your life on autopilot this year – be deliberate and be there!
