Do you ever feel down in the dumps, inadequate, even stressed and you don’t really know why? This could be it.
Your personal/core values are your SUPERPOWERS.
Personal Values are the things or character traits that you consider to be important and worthwhile.
They are part of what makes you who you are. You may have never given it any thought but you do have values
They are the guiding principles in your life – the standards by which your live and that make you more effective at showing up in the world the way you want to.
Your personal values are superpowers – if you know what they are and if you refer to them regularly. These are just some of the benefits of having clear values:
- Help you to figure out what you want from life
- Help you to act in a way that aligns with who you want to
- They bring a sense of stability because you know what you want and what is important to you.
- Decisions are easier to make when you consider which choice matches your values.
- You are aware of who your authentic self
- Help you choose or change career measuring up whether or not your chosen career will allow/help you to live in accordance with your values.
For me this quotation by Glenn Stewart says it all.
The critical thing is knowing and understanding what your values are otherwise you can find yourself feeling terrible. You might fee guilt, shame, anxiety, regret, inadequate – even unlovable without understanding why. Often those feelings are because you are disconnected from your core values.
Sometimes you can be out of touch with your values because of social demands or the expectations of others – or being just to busy to think about it.
Your actions are not congruent with your values. Lets say RESPECT is important to you but your colleagues at work show little respect for each other or for you. You enjoy your job and so you just accept the situation. However, it won’t be long before consciously or unconsciously this will begin to weigh you down.
You may know your personal core values or think you do.
There have been many studies suggesting that since Covid our values and attitudes have changed somewhat and maybe yours have too.

CORE VALUES – YOUR FORGOTTEN SUPERPOWERS
*** Just a word of warning: DON’T SET YOURSELF UP TO FAIL when thinking about your core values. Some values are difficult to live up to.
Lets say you choose HONESTY a common value but you have to ask yourself what does that actually mean to you – does it mean that you have to be ruthlessly honest in everything you do – or are white lies okay. Really give each one some thought.
Once you have your top 5 values – write them down and put them somewhere you can see them everyday to remind you or to ensure that you are living your daily life according to your values.
